Research Paper Reflection
I chose my topic from the list of topics that were posted on BlackBoard. While reading through the titles of the articles, the one that caught my attention was “From He to She in First Grade” by Laurie Frankel. After reading her article, I decided to argue about how that situation, and gender reassignment in general, is based on false beliefs that go against God's design. After being told I could not base my argument on God's word alone, I decided to use scientific evidence that followed a biblical world-view. I used Google to find various articles about doctors and transgenders that talked about how bad gender reassignment is for the body. Also through Google, I found a resolution that was submitted by a Kansas Republican Party delegate that argued the LGTBQ+ community violated the God-given dignity of every human being. After acquiring my sources, I began to write my annotated bibliography. I read each article carefully to ensure I fully understood the purpose of it, then I summarized each article to explain its main point. After finishing the annotated bibliography, I started working on my outline for the paper. I decided that my paper would have eight body paragraphs. The first would explain that gender and sex are the same; the second paragraph would talk about Frankel's son's brain not being mature enough to make the decision he did; the third would explain that sex is determined through puberty, something Frankel's son hadn't gone through yet; the fourth would say that reassignment goes against God's perfect design; the fifth would talk about the fact that Frankel's son is biologically a male; the sixth would talk about the problems gender reassignment causes; the seventh would explain that those problems are caused because reassignment doesn't address the mental issues of gender dysphoria; and the eighth would say that those that have had a gender reassignment surgery later regretted it. The outline assisted in keeping my paper organized and on topic. After typing my rough draft, I had my mom read it to ensure my argument and paper made sense. I would've turned in my rough draft to receive additional feedback, but it was not completed in time. After receiving my mom's approval, I began to revise my paper to create my final draft. I did not experience any formatting issues because Google Docs contained all the tools I needed.
Parker, I'm glad you found sources from medical professionals to help build your case. You did a very thorough job. Glad that Google docs works so well for you; technology should support us and not be an extra burden : )
